Environmental Horticulture Research Program
The IR-4 Environmental Horticulture Research program, coordinated by the Field Team, helps growers of ornamental crops by expanding existing pest management product labels and pursuing new products for registration through efficacy and crop safety trials.
Researchers throughout the west conduct trials on a variety of ornamental crops in outdoor field, container, shadehouse and greenhouse settings. The results of this research are compiled in summaries on the national IR-4 site and are used to initiate and enhance registrations for crop protection. Trials are conducted with conventional chemistries and biological products.
National priorities for research are set at a biennial workshop. In addition, a small amount of funding is available each year for projects specific to the western region.
